Film: Newswire: Yep, Peter Jackson is making three Hobbit films now

Oh boy is he going to Lucas this thing, huh?

via A.V. Club by Sean O'Neal on 7/30/12

As previously reported, skeptically regarded, and then sleepily accepted, Peter Jackson has confirmed that he will expand The Hobbit into three films, refusing to rest until every word J.R.R. Tolkien ever wrote about Middle Earth is translated onto the big screen. "We know how much of the story of Bilbo Baggins, the Wizard Gandalf, the Dwarves of Erebor, the rise of the Necromancer, and the Battle of Dol Guldur will remain untold if we do not take this chance," Jackson said on his Facebook page, declaring his intention to film whatever scenes from the relatively slim volume of The Hobbit somehow did not make it into his upcoming, already very long two-part adaptation, then pad them out with material from the various Lord Of The Rings appendices and probably some walking scenes. Although Jackson made the announcement on behalf of "the entire cast and crew," presumably the project ...

TV: Newswire: That whole Modern Family situation is indeed getting pretty ugly

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!

via A.V. Club by Sean O'Neal on 7/24/12

As set up back in March and only now answered by the punchline of a smash cut forward in time, the Modern Family cast renegotiations are, in fact, getting pretty ugly. The toddler who plays Lily has yet to begin her usual strategy of calmly asking for a tumbler of scotch only to smash it in some executive's face to show them who's boss, but it's ugly all the same—so ugly that Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Sofia Vergara, and Ed O'Neill all filed lawsuits today against 20th Century Fox TV, seeking to void their contracts. This comes after the last-minute cancellation of today's table read that was supposed to kick off the fourth season, which in turn came after the Modern Family principals all rejected the offer of $150,000 per episode, plus a $50,000 per episode bonus ...

Jet Set Radio for Android launching this Summer

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT

via Android Phone Fans by Quentyn Kennemer on 7/20/12

Another great console port looks to be headed to Android! Sega has announced that Jet Set Radio, the graffiti tagging, street skating platformer from the original Dreamcast will be in the Google Play Store this summer. This cel-shaded style title is highly regarded as one of the best games of that generation of gaming.

The console it was on was way ahead of its time, and the game was one of the pioneers for the genre with games such as Mark Ecko’s Getting Up series. No pricing or exact date is available but we hope it won’t be long before we get to roam around urban city environments tagging walls to no end. [via PocketGamer]

Film: Newswire: You can help Charlie Kaufman and Dan Harmon make a movie tog...

Oh crap...

via A.V. Club by Sean O'Neal on 7/11/12

Charlie Kaufman's most recent project, the musical Hollywood-and-robot-heads satire Frank Or Francis, reportedly fell apart due to production issues, and there is nothing you could do about it besides complain on the Internet. But did you know that you can sometimes also use the Internet for constructive things—and, more to the point, to help make sure that Charlie Kaufman's next project actually gets off the ground? Anomalisa, a Kaufman-scripted stop-motion animated film about a motivational speaker who slowly loses his own motivation, is currently seeking backers on Kickstarter, which its production team hopes will allow them to make a film unfettered by a studio system that would never allow you to "enjoy this brilliant work the way it was originally conceived." As a bonus, that creative team includes a couple of other cult favorites who have been kicked around by The Man lately—namely executive producer Dan ...

No New DC Comics Movies For "At Least 3 Years" Besides Batman and Superman F...

Billions...BILLIONS of dollars left on the table

via io9 by Charlie Jane Anders on 7/11/12

Marvel Entertainment is coming off a string of successful films, culminating in The Avengers — but meanwhile, its counterpart DC Entertainment can't get a non-Batman, non-Superman film off the ground. A new article in the L.A. Times reports that it will be "at least three years" before another DC movie hits our screens, besides this month's The Dark Knight Rises and next year's Man of Steel. UK Judge: Galaxy Tab "Not Cool" Enough To Infringe iPad

Ha! Ridiculous ruling but I'd like to see Apple appeal it. "Uh no...their product is TOTALLY COOL!"

via Slashdot by samzenpus on 7/9/12

zacharye writes "U.K. Judge Colin Birss has ruled that Samsung can continue selling its Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the region because the Android tablet is 'not as cool' as the iPad and therefore is unlikely to be confused with Apple's slate. Samsung's Galaxy line of tablets 'do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design,' Judge Birss said. 'They are not as cool.'"

Angry Man Rampages Inside T-Mobile Store – Tears The Place Apart Possibly Lo...

This man is a hero

Maybe this man was unhappy after suffering through tonight’s T-Mobile data outage? Not likely. He’s from the UK and although we don’t know exactly what caused this man’s mad rampage through a local T-Mobile store in Manchester, it’s plain to see that he’s very upset about something. The video is already set to go viral and shows the man ripping fixtures off the wall, tearing down posters and dousing the the store with a fire extinguisher. This all happens while a T-Mobile employee remembers his training, and watches calmly from the sidelines. Not soon after the po-po’s come in and whisk the man away. If I had a nickel for every time I’ve thought about doing this inside an Apple store…
